Sleepover!

haha, this 'event' happened ages ago, and finally i've gotten the urge to blog about it, so here goes:
danielle supposedly came back from UK for 2 weeks before her finals or midterms or whatever it is. so raven danni and me met up for a few hours of fun.. then over coffee someone suggested that we go for a trip... a trip seemed like wayy too much hard work so in the end, we called Ms. Chair Soo Yee and kinda (forced?) ourselves to her house for a sleepover :P

i promised to make drinks(Frosty Lychee Lime! as shown in pic!)
and danielle was about to show off her newfound culinary skills from UK~

get mint leaves, lychees, and lime.

(i think those mint leaves are really precious.
i went to Tesco, Carrefour, Giant.
DON'T HAVE ANY MINT LEAVES :(
finally went to raven's house. her dad had some!!!
but only a leetle. not enough for my great lychee lime drink. haha.
finally found out that the small grocer near my house sells it =,=
and the grocer's mints look terrible. raven's looked much better. organic leh~
anyhow, the moral of the story is: get your own herb garden!)

blend 8 mint leaves, 10 canned lychees, and juice from 2 limes together.
also pour in the lychee syrup and some ice if you like.
put 2 lychees and some mint leaves as garnishing~
the amount of the mint leaves can be adjusted according to your preference :)

cause mine turned out really green and health drink looking,
and i think soo yee just about fainted when i asked her to drink it.
:x

the chef at work. shh do not disturb :)
seriously this is the first time i have ever seen her near a kitchen hahaha. her mom was seriously proud of her too, calling all friends and family to come and try her handiwork~

ta-da~~~~!!

the humble spaghetti cannelloni ravioli with roman tomatoes and herb garnishing~
ok its just pasta made with good old Prego :D

we also managed to get Her Majesty Kelly Tan to grace us with her gracious presence~!!

those red mugs are filled with my precious Frosty Lychee Lime.
it's not obvious from this picture but actually mine is very green and tasted really green too :(
and kelly's was very white (from all that extra lychee thrown in)

hostess cleaning up~!!

after a very full dinner, we went back to fooling around, playing poker, and doing our favourite activity:
writing in each other's diaries~
its a habit for us to scribble each other's books during high school,
to escape boredom at first, but gradually we started writing more stuff and honing our artistic skills. much can be learned from the art of scribbling, i assure you~

there are only 3 people in this world who can understand this heheh~
ah, the days when we still had maths :)

nice room, no?

the night consisted of going out for coffee at Old Town, getting some alcohol at 7-11 then bumping into someone's *ahem* boss, then heading back to chill the night away at the roof deck.

it's been great catching up with you guys
group pic!
(shit la these two 'group' pics have the same people. now only i realize that raven had been hiding behind the camera all this while :[ )

what else did we do ah? anyway, good morning, and we woke up so late its about time to leave :(

however we still found some time to torture the resident toy poodle

ok i know using the word 'torture' and 'poodle' together is a bit sensitive nowadays.
shame on those disgusting dog-abusers.

ok la rephrase: we still found some time to pester Gigi to play with us

and its about time to leave :(

cheers to friendships, freeks, and more sleepovers to come~

p.s: a million tenkews to ms. esther chair soo yee

quote of the day

(NAH!)

"shopping is like drinking salt water, the more you drink the thirstier you get."

ok so the story goes like this: my kid sister totally loves shopping and given the chance, she would totally move into shopping malls and live there forever.

the catch is, my mom hates shopping and does not believe in shopping as a leisure activity. in my mom's book, shopping is the most mindless activity ever created.

one fine day sis started asking mom's permission to go shopping with her friend to 'exchange birthday presents'.

(why on earth would anyone want to do this is beyond my comprehension. come on, presents are supposed to be a surprise, a thought from the heart! not this kind of asking the recipient to choose. where's the fun babeh?)

whatever.

OF COURSE mom wouldn't allow her to go since she had already went to the same mall for like 3 times in a week.

as most moms are, nagging inevitably follows. in the course of the lecture (usually by this time i would train my ears to shut themselves and stay out of trouble)
i guess my ears aren't behaving themselves and i heard one sentence.

just one.

'shopping is like drinking salt water. the more you drink the thirstier you get.'

wow!

way to go, mom!

what a good quote!

this was EXACTLY what had been niggling at the back of my mind lately.

the more i go to shopping malls, the more i feel i lack.

i started being more and more discontented, wanting to buy this, buy that, get this, get that, started drawing mental wish-lists, to-get lists, feeling that my wardrobe is terribly small and insufficient, all the time wanting more, more, MORE!

and it doesn't help that shopping malls are doing all they could to draw you in.

first and foremost, SALES!!!!
doesn't that S-A-L-E word sets your heart pumping and the adrenaline rushing?

secondly, great decorations during or not during festive seasons:
especially CNY songs to make you buy red clothing :x

number 3, providing entertainment such as skating rinks, cinemas, karaokes, archery, bowling alleys, boat rides, theme parks........seriously? do we need that much stuff?

but skating is a good excuse to hold hands though...

fourthly, amazing awe-inspiring well designed spaces:

the more comfortable you feel in that environment, the longer you'll stay there~

and the list goes on......

shopping has become our nation's national religion.
we spend almost all of our free time to shop at shopping malls for clothes.
and where do we wear these clothes? at the mall.
its becoming a vicious cycle.
i think the mall is the place where we spend most of our leisure time at.

malls are the place to go to during festive seasons, public holidays, countdowns, weekends, dates, gatherings or even meals. have you guys no creativity at all?

i have even seen clinics at shopping malls. so now they're also part of your health care regime.

*sigh*

why are we so addicted to shopping malls?
what a good question.

those marketers are doing a really good job. but where is my rant heading to?

shopping has integrated itself successfully into our lives.
we head to shopping malls without a second thought.
we long for things that we see so often in the shop windows.
we crave for things that we don't actually need but the shop window insists that you do.
we are able to spend hours walking around the mall and buying nothing in the end.
or buying something just to justify those hours wasted.
we feel that we are not cool enough if we don't have that, or that, or that.

the hours wasted!
the unnecessary craving for useless crap!

ok i know i love shopping and i'm not exactly the best person to convince you to think twice about going to shopping malls, but trust me, there're better things to do than spend the whole day breathing in second-hand air and helping your wallet to slim down.

like going outdoors to have fun, for instance :)

good luck staying away from malls~
with the economic crisis looming ever larger than before, saving is the IT thing to do now~

now, do you still need that 5th pair of shoes so much?

haha dont kid me, of course you still do~

ELLEROWEEYEE

what exactly is this thing...called love? every single day when i log in to facebook, i see people lamenting love. it's starting to drive me crazy.

'love will hurt you. leave you with scars.'
'loving too deeply will cause you to sacrifice too easily'
'xxx is in a relationship'. (5 minutes later) 'xxx is single'. (3 days later) 'xxx is in a relationship'.
'@#$% you!!! i never want to see you again!'

etc etc etc.

whenever i go karaoke-ing with friends,
inevitably, around 98% of the songs are about love.
how dreams got crushed or you're the only one or how it's never meant to be or we'll be young forever or come get me in the cheap looking motel then we'll live happily ever after.

how many of those stuff are true anyway?

why are there so many songs about love?

cause it sells.

why does it sells?

it rings a bell within everyone.

everybody, somehow or other, is searching for love.

i guess there's an inbuilt function of craving to be loved or love in our hearts.

but those screwed-up definitions of love are really bothering me.
people get hurt.
those songs aren't teaching us anything.

ladies and gentlemen, i present to you, the best definition of love by far:

(lemme challenge you, tick and see how much could you score?)

ready?

go!

1.love is patient

2.love is kind

3.it does not envy

4.it does not boast

5.it is not proud,

6.it is not rude

7.it is not self-seeking

8.it is not easily angered

9.it keeps no record of wrongs

10.love does not delight in evils

11.but rejoices with the truth

12.it always protects

13.always trusts

14.always hopes

15.always perseveres

and lastly,

16.love never fails.

ok i know this sounds rather far-fetched, no one can attain full marks for it except for Jesus.
(i am already facing problems for the first one.) but the truth about true, beautiful love, is in there.

think about it. jealousy, envy, hurting, anger, are not justifiable in the name of love. when that happens, that is not love. i know no one is perfect, but remember this the next time you felt unloved or made to feel worthless by that jerk. THAT i can assure you, is love gone bad.
throw it away.
expiry date gone.

with love,

montag

class was cancelled, had an extremely free monday. till German class at 6pm, that is.

unfinished tales by Tolkien was indeed unfinished. couldn't escape that niggling feeling of discontent after every story. this was one greatness that was destined to end on a jarring note.

reading vanness' blog. he used to be that gross F4 guy with the famous rebonded hair hahaha. but now he's become quite a big thing in Japan. he's taken a vow of abstaining from sex before marriage, and i guess many have criticized him for that. come on lah people.

but its quite inspiring to read his blog though. iamvanness.com ~

ahh...what else can i do? 4 more hours to go till the next class.

and i

sneezed myself to sleep.

what i do when there's no internet connection

troy was released in 2004, and 7 years later i finally watched it today.
it only served to reinforce my belief that war is a senseless thing.

however, there is still brad pitt :)

the story was basically about the great war between troy and sparta which started because the young prince of troy, paris, was stupid enough to take queen helen of sparta.

'but i love her.'

which is totally food for thought.

is one woman worth the greatest war of their time?
the lives of countless men, fathers, sons, brothers, cousins?

war is never for love.

there will always be greed, power, lust, revenge, pride, involved.
although there might also be courage, bravery, or stuff like that,
but i find those lives lost for such petty reasons a great loss.

King Priam of Troy told his son:

' i fought many wars in my time. some i've fought for land, some for power, and some for glory.
i suppose fighting for love makes more sense than all the rest.'

does it really make sense?

***

the movie, loosely based on Homer's Iliad, was quite full of sex scenes and gore. and since i already knew about the Trojan Horse and stuff, its quite excruciating to watch all the characters i love die.

this is Prince Hector. played by Eric Bana.

he loves his wife, his son, his brother, his father, his country...
basically the perfect guy in the movie.

'All my life i've lived by a code and the code is simple: honor the gods, love your woman and defend your country. Troy is mother to us all. Fight for her!'

and this is prince paris, played by orlando bloom!!!!!!!!!

its obvious that the pink umbrella is very modern, with metal spokes and all.

this kinda reminds me of legolas.
perhaps his archery skills have come in handy for Troy after all~

and this is the disgusting horse that ended the war. the Spartans plundered Troy overnight, letting it burn to the ground. the Spartans(barbarians) raped the women, hung the innocent, stabbed the babies and slayed every single Trojan.

i hope none of these are historically true.

:(
